Open Collection of Cēsis Museum

The Cēsis History and Art Museum is the first museum of Latvia which, functioning in conjunction with the creative industries, has created a separate educational lecture space, combined with the museum open holdings.

In addition to getting acquainted with the old school, children under the guidance of the museum pedagogue can enter the world of the old things and explore the different objects located on the shelves of the open-stock. Among the things found in the collection, there are musical instruments, clocks, boxes, lamps and many other objects. Visitors can only guess what the application of each of them is. Such placement of articles suggests an association with the early museums in the Renaissance period, when the collections of rare objects were placed in the so-called cabinets of curiosities. Thus, the visit of the curiosities turns into a kind of adventure. In particular, because the objects are not separated from the visitor by showcase safety glass, but under the supervision of the museum specialist can be touched and seen up close.

Currently the museum open holdings can be visited by phoning in advance.
