Summer season in Cesis castle complex

The Cēsis Castle complex will be open to visitors from May 1: the permanent exposition and exhibitions of the Cēsis History and Art Museum, the Cēsis Exhibition House, the Western Tower of the Medieval Castle and the multimedia exhibition “Cēsis Castle Story”, as well as the South Tower exposition kitchen garden.

From May 1, season ticket prices for the Cēsis Castle complex:

for adults 10.00 EUR,
for pupils, students, pensioners 5.50 EUR,
for families (2 adults and children under 16) 20.00 EUR.

Working hours every day from 10:00 to 18:00. Only the Medieval Castle is open on Mondays.

In the medieval castle and garden:

On the four floors of the South Tower of the medieval castle, there is a multimedia exhibition "Life on a Powder Buck", which tells about a 500-year-old past when the Livonians lived in anticipation of imminent change. The exhibition reveals in a fascinating way the stories of the historical people who were once imprisoned in the prison in the basement of the tower, as well as the role of the Long Hermann in the protection of the castle.

The multimedia exhibition “The Story of Cēsis Castle” in the West Tower of the castle is a unique exposition with video, sound and light effects that completely surround the viewer. Feel the atmosphere of ancient times and find out the fascinating story of the most powerful Livonian fortress in an unprecedented experience!

From Wednesday to Sunday, there will be a knowledgeable gardener Līga in the medieval kitchen garden, who will tell you about vegetables, herbs and medicinal plants cultivated in Livonia 500 years ago, about the use of each plant, its good and not so good properties.

In addition to the main exposition at the Cesis History and Art Museum:

In the attic hall, the exhibition “The Charm of the Blue and White World. English decayed faience in Latvian museums and private collections. (18th-21st centuries) ”. The exhibition reveals important themes related to British decolourised ceramics, from the history and origins of this type of decoration in England, to the development of decolourisation technology and the production of decolourised tableware, and to the variety of shapes and motifs. The exhibition is open until the end of September.

In the seminar hall, the exhibition “New Acquisitions in the Collection of the Cēsis Museum of History and Art 2017-2021” presents historically significant objects, documents, photographs, paintings and other evidence of the time donated to the museum during the last five years. The exhibition is open until May 29.

Cesis Exhibition House:

Exhibition of the painter Imants Vecozols "With a different view". The classic of Latvian painting and the master of still life I. Vecozols is one of the most original and significant masters of Latvian art. The artist is an outstanding master of still lifes, as well as a successor of the tonal painting traditions of Valdemāra Tone and Konrad Uban.

Glass artist Marta Gibiete's exhibition "Traveler and Garden". The exhibition will feature both glass sculptures in the author's technique and experiments in the plane, mostly the achievements of recent years. The works of the transparent structure from the collection "Travelers" will be complemented by recently made graphic engravings.

Both exhibitions are open until June 12.
