Cesis will celebrate its 816th anniversary

Traditionally, on the third weekend of July, from July 15 to July 17, Cēsis will celebrate its biggest holiday of the year - "Cēsis 816". This will be the first holiday after a longer break, when the events of the extensive program can be attended in person without restrictions. The main motive of the holiday, referring to the reform of the counties that took place last year, is growth. Growth in the field of physical, intellectual and environmental protection, to which special attention will be paid this holiday.

We are pleased to announce that this year the tradition of the procession is being renewed, in which teams of companies related to Cēsis, sports teams, interest groups and other residents are invited to participate!

The special celebration event for two days, "Cēsis Experimental Quarter 2022", will take place in the creative and digital quarter "Rainis". According to the organizers of this area "Making Magic": "The usual also tend to surprise if it is looked at differently." See Cēsis with different eyes, hear our stories, taste our tastes, give in to music and movement ”. Various forms and technologies of art expression will intertwine in the quarter. They will tell our stories in a new way - about Cesis, Cesis, our places and things, creators and doers. Special stories in a special place - giving everyone a chance to look at what they have never seen before.

There will be a party "Crazy Disco Night" right there in the courtyard of Rainis quarter on Friday evening. A special guest from France will make the party unforgettable.

A unique festive event will be the light performance "Cesis is growing". On Friday and Saturday evenings we invite you to enjoy them in Rucka Park, Pirtsupīte ravine and to St. John's Church in Cēsis.

On the main day of the holiday, Saturday, July 16, a traditional market of home producers and craftsmen will take place on Rīgas Street, where street artists and musicians will also be delighted. The historic Hanseatic Market will take place in Rose Square.

On Saturday morning in the Castle Square we will invite the little ones to the "Children's Morning", where we will exercise, watch the show and do other exciting activities. In turn, young people will have creative and educational activities throughout the day in the program "Cēsis learns".

Various sports competitions and activities will take place at the Cēsis City Stadium on Saturday and Sunday. In the afternoon, the “Cēsis 816” studio will be opened in Vienibas Square, inviting Cēsis residents and various holiday guests to talks. Of course, there will also be musical greetings and other surprises.

We'll start the evening program with a glorious procession. This year it will start from Lielās Skolas Street, throw a circle around Vienibas Square and will ceremoniously end in the Castle Park, where we will welcome “Cēsis of the Year 2021” and enjoy a festive concert with Vidzeme Chamber Orchestra and soloists conducted by Andris Veismaņš. With the onset of darkness, one of Latvia's rising stars will take the stage, followed by a glorious summer green ball. The evening's concerts will also be broadcast live on ReTV.

On Sunday, the closing day of the festival, we will invite you to a festive picnic in the garden of Cēsis Castle.

Sports activities will continue in the city stadium. During the day, a parade of motorists from Cēsis region will take place in the streets of Cēsu. After the parade, these cars can be seen all day long in the old market square, where the DJ (Ex) da Bass will play a party.

We will end the festive program with fun traditional entertainment - the summer skiing "Flowering skis".

The full program of "Cēsis 816" will be published in the middle of June.
