Ancient Jewellery Smithy

For his research and experimentation ancient jewellery master Daumants Kalniņš shares knowledge and experience in his experimental archelogy workshop “Ancient jewellery smithy.” The Master set himself a goal, to show the ornaments of ancient splendour and luxury, reflecting the Latvian nation’s cultural heritage. To achieve this goal, it was necessary to research, explore and experiment with methods of work the jewellery masters used a thousand years ago. These issues the Master have also discussed in his books, articles and reports in international archaeologists’ conferences.

Blacksmiths visitors have an opportunity to get acquainted with the ancient Latvian jewellery work. Here you can see the ancient jewellery, replicas of the master’s narrative, and learn about the ancient bronze and silver ornaments and the importance of wearing traditional outfit. Visitors have an opportunity to slip into the role of ancient jewellery wearer, to try on replica jewellery sets.

Ancient jewellery smithy is open during the summer season from May to September.
