On the 19th of May an International Day of The Hansa will be celebrated all around the Europe and also in Cesis. Everyone is invited to take a fascinating excursion through the Old Town to find out more about life in the city during the time when Cēsis was a member of the Hanseatic League.
Excursions starts at 7 pm and 9 pm. Meeting place - the visitor center of Cēsis Castle Complex, address - Pils laukums 9. Prior application is recommended. It can be done at the visitor center on the day of the event or by phone +371 26576111. Excursions are free of charge.
During the excursion, you will be able to get to know the medieval atmosphere of the Cēsis Old Town and find out where the old market places and warehouses were located, the gates were traders came into the town from near and far lands, and what strict laws the merchants had to follow.
The International Day of The Hansa is celebrated in cities that have been members of the union in the Middle Ages and have been able to document their own affiliation with it. With the tours, concerts and various activities, the Hanseatic spirit is displayed, so that the locals not only learn more about this union, but also understand its significance in the context of today's European Union cooperation network. Excursions are organized by Cēsis municipality agency "Cēsu Kultūras un Tūrisma Centrs" project “Hanseatic Approach to New Sustainable Alliances” (HANSA). The HANSA project is implemented with the European Regional Development Fund Central Baltic Program 2014-2020. and it aims to strengthen the values of the historic Hanseatic League. It is implemented by 11 partners from Latvia, Estonia and Sweden from October 2015 to December 2018.
