Cēsis invites to celebrate the summer together

This year “Cēsis 813” - the most impressive city’s celebration, will be held from 19th – 21st July. During all three days locals and city’s guests are welcome to enjoy art, fashion, music and sport activities. In the previous years, this festival has gathered more than 60 000 visitors by becoming the biggest free of charge three-day festival in Latvia.

This year festival's motto is “Celebrating Summer!”. During the most colorful weekend of the year, Cēsis invites both, inhabitants and guests of Cēsis to celebrate this bright and joyful event together in the prime of the summer!

“We have worked carefully and patiently to make this year’s festival stand out from the previous ones. Both, the programme and the event locations have faced changes, to guarantee an interesting and breathtaking experience for yearly visitors and first timers as well. This year there are going to be so many novelties in the programme as never before – for sure we will celebrate the summer fully and it will be entertaining for each and everyone, “ highlights Head of Cēsis Culture and Tourism Centre, Andra Magone.

To begin the celebration, on the evening of 19th July everybody will unite in a dance at Rožu laukums (Rožu square), however, the biggest free rock music festival in Latvia “Fono Cēsis”, held at Smilšu laukums (Smilšu square), will gather the best Latvian musicians for whole two days.

 Vienības laukums (Vienības square) will be the main celebration area. On the first festival day, 19th July everybody is invited to enjoy outdoor cinema at the square, however, on the 20th of July a wide and diversified programme awaits the guests. “Cēsis 813” will enlighten their little visitors  with a special programme for families with children - Cēsis theater will make laugh even the toughest ones with their performance “Čivināsim vai lidosim” and Cēsis Svētku choir will fill the air with a beautiful melody.

As a part of historical Hanza’s market, which has now become a tradition, tradesmen and craftsmen will gather in the Cēsis Castle’s garden and the old town, however, to escape from the crowd, at the Cēsis Castle's park the masters of sauna and SPA will share their wisdom of relaxation. Creative installations will take place at the main city street – Rīgas iela. It will be a pleasure for the eyes made by the inhabitants of Cēsis and so it would be even more enjoyable, terraces will be installed on the street.

One of the most important happenings will be at Vienības laukums (Vienības square) -Vidzeme’s Chamber orchestra’s concert “Metru virs zemes”. Programme for festival square is made by  Gunita Bārda.

Celebration march, which is already a tradition, will finish at the Vienības square from which will be seen an amazing firework show.  After the fireworks, Latvian artist Rihards Saule will perform with an outstanding show “Queentessence” and the dance floor will be open until late night.

As usual, Sunday will be dedicated for sport and relaxation. At Pirtupītes grava - traditional motocross “Zelta mopēds”, however, at Vienības laukums - ”Ghetto Games” tournament and other sport activities.

Cēsis, a city founded in the year of 1206, is the third oldest city in Latvia and the homeland of Latvian flag.
